PSU v LSU [Jan. 1st, 2010|02:09 pm]

Based on the field conditions in Orlando for the Capital One Bowl, I wonder if the execs at Proctor and Gamble aren't thinking "Well, damn. We should have sponsored part of the game this year"
Imagine a commercial showing clips of the game followed by football players stripping in the locker room putting their uniforms in a whirlpool of Tide detergent.
Now that would be my kind of commercial.

Soon to Be on the Road Again. [Dec. 16th, 2009|10:17 pm]
Mike
well, the bags are packed and Sparky's food placed in a portable container. I'm ready for the drive home to PA. 20 hours on the open road.
Plan is to drop Bill off at the car rental place, come back to the house, pack the truck and help Bill pack his car with his family's presents. I had all mine shipped to my parent's place. Bill's mom would have open everything so he had most things shipped here to the house. I'm hoping that Sparky and I can get on the road at a decent time or at least earlier than I did last year. I figure that I'll crash somewhere in KY for the night.

Have a great holiday! Hugs Mike

Nothing like spending the afternoon sitting on the back patio, smoking a cigar, downing a few beers, cooling off in the pool. Definitely a good way to wind down from a rough work week.

Plane Tickets Purchased - Vacation Forthcoming [Jun. 20th, 2009|03:29 pm]
Mike
A few weeks ago, I got an invitation to my high school reunion. #20.
I wasnt planning on attending, but since Bill is still unemployed and I have 19 days of PTO time at work that I need to use, he told me I should go. Plus, the fact that, as he put it, if I head to PA to visit my family, they won't be coming down here this summer.
I was going to fly into Baltimore (3 hr drive) but I was able to get a flight to Pittsburgh (2 hr drive) for under $200.
Anyways, it'll be good to see some old friends that I have not seen in a long time and catch up on things. Plus, I will get to see my family and get to play "Uncle Mike" for a few days as well.
Hugs to all

Weekend Update [May. 31st, 2009|09:49 pm]
Mike
Friday night we headed down to Fair Park to see the first show in the Dallas Summer Musical subscriber's season - Happy Days: A New Musical. To say we hated it, is an understatement. Bad singing, band dancing and a horrible story line. We walked out at intermission because we thought it was rude to leave the half-filled auditorium sooner.

Saturday, we went grocery shopping and rent movies. Nothing real exciting, but it was great just to sit back and relax for once

Today, we went to see "Terminator: Salvation". I thought it was OK. Nothing like the first 2 and I didnt think it was as bad as #3. After the movie, we came home, cleaned the pool, and went swimming for a bit. Bill noticed that I have a black/blue bullseye mark on my forearm. I have no idea how that happened or if I got bit by something. I'll keep a close eye on it to see if it gets worse. If it does, I'll be off to the doctor.

Other than that, the weekend was rather uneventful. Nice and relaxing which is a good thing considering tomorrow starts month end close at work.

hugs to all - Mike

Off to Orlando Tuesday - Thursday [May. 17th, 2009|02:36 pm]
Mike
I wish I could say that it was for fun, but alas it is for a conference. A medicaid rebate/government pricing conference. The schedule is lectures upon lectures. My manager told me to take a lot of No Doz with me. I'll be attending the conference with my supervisor. Luckily we do not have to share rooms.

Unfortunately I am there only for the conference. My supervisor, in his utmost wisdom, decided that he didnt want to stay longer than he had to. Even though my manager said we could bring family and stay the weekend. He booked our flights before I could say that I wanted to stay over the Memorial Day weekend. I tried to change my flight, but due to "company policy", I couldnt get a cheap enough flight.

My flights suck for this trip.
We fly in Tuesday morning - conference starts at noon
We fly out Thursday evening - conference ends at 5pm.

Hugs to all

Wow - Look who is actually posting to his journal [Mar. 14th, 2009|10:10 pm]
Mike
My short week at work went by pretty well. No major drama, which is a good thing. I'm really liking my new position, especially since I'm actually leaving work on time. Some people thought I was crazy to take a lateral move without a pay increase.
Actually it wasnt a pay increase, but it sure seems like one. I'm only in the office around 45 hours a week now vs. the 50-55 hours I was working before. I'm not logging in from home to get work done and I'm not working weekends. So the position was a promotion in a sense for me.

Bill is home from Minnesota and still looking for work. He's had a few hits, but nothing has panned out yet. He is enjoying his time at home though and has delved into "ghost hunting" as a hobby. Whether you believe in that stuff or not, I will tell you that he's come across some things in his adventures that I can't explain.
Luckily, I make enough to cover our basic expenses such as the mortgage and utilities. A lot of the 'extra' stuff we used to do has been put on hold for right now.

We've been talking for the last while about starting our own business. Right now, I'm spending my evenings doing research online and see what funding might be available to us. We have one possibility and have been in contact with the current owners to acquire their business. I'm waiting on some financial information from the owners so that I can complete the business plan. It could be an exciting year if we can accomplish this, but it is one of the goals that we set for ourselves at the beginning of the year.

Back to the research. Hugs to all.
